TDs critical of Budget

All three Roscommon/Galway TDs have criticised Tuesday’s Budget, with Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice claiming that “Middle Ireland” and “those living in rural areas” have been overlooked.

Deputy Fitzmaurice said: “While an increase of €179 million for the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s budget has been announced, how much of that will actually end up in farmers’ pockets?”

He added: “Whatever slight benefits farmers or the people of Ireland may enjoy will be far exceeded by the impact of the increase in Carbon Tax by €7.50 per tonne”.

Sinn Féin TD and party spokesperson on Social Protection, Claire Kerrane and Independent TD Denis Naughten also voiced criticism of the Budget.
