Rapid Grass takes root in Castlecoote

A highly-acclaimed bluegrass band from the United States called Rapid Grass, is set to take PJ’s of Castlecoote by storm this Friday night as part of their European tour.

Founded in Golden, Colorado in 2012, Rapid Grass includes Mark Morris on guitar and vocals, Coleman Smith on violin, mandolin and vocals, Carl Meinecke on upright bass, tenor banjo and vocals, Alex Johnstone on mandolin, fiddle and vocals, and recording producer Billy Cardine on dobro and vocals.

While widely considered bluegrass, their genre of music can best be described as ‘rapidgrass’ due to its furious pace and its wide range of influences including gypsy jazz, bluegrass, swing and classical music.

The band have won multiple awards, including the ‘Rockygrass Band Competition’ and 303 Magazine’s ‘Best Bluegrass Band in Denver’, and they have also headlined the renowned La Roche Bluegrass Festival in France.

Their session at PJ’s in Castlecoote is quite the coup for the bar as Rapidgrass prepare for the European leg of their summer tour.

Rapidgrass will perform from 9.30 pm this Friday night in the relaxing surrounds of Castlecoote ahead of a hectic schedule which includes a return to the La Roche Bluegrass Festival and gigs in Chamonix.
