Santa’s Drive Thru Grotto this weekend
While it may be Christmas with a difference this year, the hard-working volunteers in Strokestown are doing all they can to inject some Christmas cheer, according to local Senator and Town Team member, Eugene Murphy.
“Here in Strokestown the Town Team has been phenomenal this year in getting the place ready for Christmas,” he said. “The Christmas Lights committee have also been working very hard and have extended the lights in Strokestown this year. Community spirit is alive and well here and there has been tremendous teamwork on show from volunteers”.
Senator Murphy welcomed the recent lifting of Level 5 restrictions, and hoped that it would lead to increased footfall in the run up to Christmas.
“It has been very positive that businesses have been able to reopen for what will hopefully be a busy Christmas period. We are disappointed, however, for the local pubs which have been unable to reopen. It was always tradition for people to meet each other for a drink in the run-up to Christmas so it will be very different this year without that atmosphere”.
There was also more good news recently: Covid-19 restrictions won’t prevent a famous visitor from calling on the town this year.
“Santa Claus will be flying in from the North Pole this weekend after getting special permission from the Irish Government. Our friend will be busy in the town this year because he will be appearing at Strokestown Park House for the Drive Thru Santa’s Grotto this weekend. Children will be able to say hello to Santa and they’ll also receive a little treat on the day”.
Senator Murphy concluded by calling on local shoppers to stick with Strokestown for gifts and groceries this year.
“We have plenty to offer in Strokestown this Christmas so there’s really no need to be going outside of the town for your shopping. Keep it here and support your local businesses this year and let’s hope the New Year is a healthy and prosperous one for all us all!”
