Friday, September 4

There was a very large entry of top-quality cattle on offer at last Friday’s sale with numbers well up on the previous week.

There was a solid trade for heifers with a maximum price of €3.04 a kilo and an average price of €2.46 a kilo.

There was a firm trade for bullocks with average prices of €2.20 a kilo and a maximum price of €2.88 a kilo.

There was an improved trade for dry cows, with an average price of €1.98 a kilo and a maximum price of €2.23 a kilo.

There was a good attendance of customers with a high clearance of lots.

Due to the large booking of bullocks on Thursday last, the first 100 pens will be sold on Friday, September 11, and the remaining 75 pens will be sold on Friday September 18.

As a result of the high volume of stock being offered for sale, an extra special sale for heifers will be held on Friday, September 25 at 11 am. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm on Tuesday, September 15, Wednesday, September 16, and Thursday, September 17. Bookings by phone (0906626352) by or by calling to the office.

New booking arrangements: Please note bookings for all special sales will be accepted up to 5 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the week prior to the sale.

The Draw for the pens will take place on Thursday at 5 pm. Draw System for starting pen on sale Days: The draw for the starting pen will be made at 10.45 am on Fridays and 4.45 pm on Tuesdays. The first number drawn will be the starting pen and a second draw will be made to determine whether the draw will go up or down.

Weanling show and sale – this Tuesday, September 8, at 5 pm. Also special entry of 18 (3 year old) Springers at 8 pm.

Breeding ewes – Saturday, September 5 There were large numbers of breeding ewes and hoggets on offer at last Saturday’s sale.

There was an easier trade for breeding ewes with prices slightly back on last week. There was no significant change in the average price of hoggets with the tops making €212.

Two-year-old ewes made up to €203. Saturday sales continue weekly – Gates open at 8 am. Sale commences at 11 am. Show and Sale of Pedigree Charollais Rams – 59 Ram Lambs and 2 Hogget Rams. Show 12 noon – Sale 1.00 p.m.

Tuesday, Septemer 8 There was a large entry of excellent quality stock on offer at the show and sale of weanlings held on Tuesday evening last.

There was a strong trade for heifer weanlings, with prices averaging €2.64 a kilo and a maximum price of €3.66 a kilo. There was also a good demand for Bull Weanlings with average prices of €2.54 a kilo and a top price of €4.21 a kilo.

There was a good attendance of both exporters and farmers. Tuesday sale continue weekly at 5 pm for weanlings and suckler cows. Tuesday, September 29, special entry of 21 Excellent 3 and 4 calvers, calving end of October onwards to AI Charolais Bull (FSZ & CSQ) and AI BB (AJY) 3 Heifers in calf to AI sexed Heifer semen Simmental. Show and Sale of Lambs – Wednesday, September 9 There was a huge entry of sheep on offer for the annual Show and Sale of Lambs held on Wednesday last. There was an excellent display of very good quality Ewe lambs on offer.

There was an improvement in the average prices for Lambs in particular for Ewe Lambs which fetched as high as €135. There was a similar trade for Cast Ewes with all lots sold. Weekly sales for Sheep continue on Wednesdays at 11 am.

Please note Ewe lambs will be sold separately to Wether/Ram lambs. Draw for the starting pens. The draw for the starting pen will be held at 10.45 a.m. A second draw will take place to determine whether the draw will go up or down.

Breeding ewes sales continue weekly on Saturdays at 11 a.m. Gate opens at 8 am. Show and sale of pedigree charollais. Rams – this Saturday, September 12. Show at noon. Sale at 1.30 pm.

Sale on 3/9/15: 750 cattle on offer this week with prices holding firm for most categories of stock on offer.

Bigger numbers of weanlings coming on offer at the moment with strong demand for the quality continentals store bullocks.

Heifers remain a solid trade with good demand while breeding stock and dry cows also recorded good clearances.
