Despite the recent drought conditions, the water levels at Lough Funshinagh in Rahara are still at “very high winter levels”, according to Cllr. Laurence Fallon.
It is believed that either a blockage has prevented water being let out of the turlough naturally or the capacity of the lake has been interfered with.
It was announced at Monday’s monthly Roscommon County Council meeting that the County Council has published a tender for a scoping document, which has been approved by the OPW, to establish what work needs to be carried out in order to return to normal water levels.
Cllr. Fallon added that he was “very confident” that people would come forward and that a solution to the problem would be found.
