One of Ireland’s longest-running carnivals, Ballygar Carnival, will take place from Thursday, August 2nd to Tuesday, August 7th, in Ballygar, Co. Galway. This will be the 74th anniversary of the event.
Ballygar Carnival committee secretary, Josephine Raftery, says the hard work behind the successful event is ongoing.
“It’ll start again once this year’s carnival finishes. There’s a lot of great work done behind the scenes by our hard-working committee,” she said.
Josephine added that the committee were very grateful to the local businesses in Ballygar who support the carnival every year.
“We’re very thankful to the local businesses of course. The event wouldn’t be possible without their support.
“It’s a wonderful event and each year people come home to Ballygar to be part of it. We’re very much looking forward to the August Bank Holiday,” she said.
The persistent Ballygar Carnival committee members have been hard at work securing some top class entertainment for this year’s event and it has certainly paid off.
From top entertainers like Séan Keane, Mike Denver, Cliona Hagan, Silhouette, and Smash Hits, to the street entertainment of the Fair Day, Truckin’ and the Carnival Parade, there is something for everyone in Ballygar over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Throughout the weekend there will be various sporting events and tournaments taking place at the new pitch development and at the Niall Walsh Community Field. More details can be found in the carnival brochure.
This year’s Ballygar Carnival promises to be another really enjoyable event for the whole family so come along, spread the word and join in the celebrations!
