Covid: 378 cases in Roscommon in a week

A total of 378 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Roscommon in the seven-day period from November 16th to 22nd, giving the county a five-day moving average of 47.

Nationally, there were a further 3,893 Covid cases confirmed in the State yesterday (Wednesday) while sadly there were 43 further deaths in the past week.

As of yesterday morning, there were 611 patients hospitalised with the virus, of whom 132 are in intensive care.

Testing capacity reached breaking point this week as Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan said the most important action for those experiencing symptoms was to self-isolate immediately and arrange a PCR test.

No further restrictions are expected to be imposed this week and it is understood the Cabinet will wait until the end of next week before deciding its next course of action.

Meanwhile, 3.8 per cent of Roscommon primary school students surveyed by the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) between November 1st and 16th were ill with the virus.

The INTO conduced the survey of 3,100 school principals nationwide to assess of the level of infection. A total of 877 principals responded.
