Roscommon GAA underage club coaching conference and workshop For the first time ever Roscommon coaching and games development committee will be holding an underage GAA coaching conference and workshop for all clubs in the county for both football and hurling on this Saturday, December 1 st in the Abbey Hotel Roscommon, commencing at 9.30 am sharp.    The main theme of the conference will be all about coaching and drafting coaching development plans to tailor the needs of all clubs within the county to ensure they are catering for all our young players adequately.    Every club will be allowed to send three delegates to the conference. Guest speaker on the day will be Connacht coaching director John Tobin.  Roscommon schools capture Connacht vocational senior B title The Coaching Corner would like to congratulate the Roscommon intercounty vocational school team on capturing the Connacht vocational schools senior B football title for the third year in a row after they defeated Sligo by 1-8 to 1-7 in Ballymote last week.    The team is made up of players from just two schools – Roscommon and Elphin Community Colleges. This is a wonderful achievement for the schools, i.e. to have completed a hat-trick of titles and to have now qualified for the All-Ireland semi-final (to be played at a later date).  1 st and 2 nd year Connacht hurling blitz A 1 st and 2 nd year hurling blitz day will take place in Ballyhaunis for Roscommon and Mayo Secondary Schools on Monday, December 3 rd, commencing at 11 am.    It is hoped Roscommon CBS, Roscommon Community College, Castlerea Community School and Elphin Community College will take part on the day. Minor football trials starting on Saturday December 1 st   Trials for the Roscommon minor football team of 2008 will start in the Orchard Park, Elphin on this Saturday, December 1 st and in Johnstown the following week, Saturday 8 th .    Clubs have being notified and given all the relevant information for their players who are going for trials.     Coaching calendar for 2008 The Roscommon coaching and games development calendar for 2008 will be launched at our coaching conference in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on this Saturday, December 1 st . Like last year it will have a yearly coaching planner of all the activities that are happening at under age level within the county.  Conclusion of phase one of primary school coaching Last week we concluded our coaching in the primary schools for both football and hurling. We thank our part time coaches in both codes for their great work and dedication over the last ten weeks. The second cycle in the schools commences next April. Roscommon schools in Connacht Colleges action The game of the week came in the Connacht Colleges senior B football championship as Roscommon CBS defeated Holy Rosary, Mountbellew by 1-13 to 0-15 AET after a titanic first-round battle.    After a superb game of football, the teams finished level, 1-9 to 0-12, before CBS came good in extra-time to snatch victory and set up a quarter-final meeting with Rice College Westport in two weeks’ time.    In the Connacht Colleges senior C football league Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown defeated St. Aloysius College by 0-13 to 0-8 to reach the play-offs. GAA convention dates for football and hurling The senior hurling board AGM is on this Thursday night, November 29 th and the senior football AGM is on Monday night next, December 3 rd in the Royal Hotel, Roscommon at 7 pm. Fun do learning resource pack for sale  Primary schools and clubs along with any coach can now purchase this FUN DO learning resource pack, which covers gaelic football, hurling, ladies football and camogie.    The Roscommon coaching and games development committee would like every club to at least buy one as they aim to improve their underage structure within the club from U-6 to U-12.     The cost of the DVD at present is €50 (special rate) which includes both football and hurling. The DVD has up on 1000 drills in all the skills of the game in both codes.
