Carlow game now vital after Westmeath ‘Down’ Roscommon

Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Junior Camogie (Rd. 2) Westmeath 2-8 Roscommon 0-9

Sunday and now they must win their home game against Carlow next Sunday to get back on track for a place in the knockout stages.

Roscommon were the better side in the opening half and with Kelley Hopkins accurate from frees and Annette McGeeney and Niamh Watson playing well, they opened up a 0-6 to 0-3 lead by half-time.

However Westmeath were a different proposition on the resumption. Mairead McCormack got in for an early Westmeath goal. Niamh Watson replied with a point for Roscommon, but then Westmeath scored five points without reply to stretch their lead to seven.

Roscommon did manage a response with points from Kelley Hopkins (free) and Annette McGeeney, but when Westmeath sub Aoife Corcoran grabbed a late goal, it was all over as a contest.
