Brudell’s four-goal salvo

Roscommon had a comprehensive win over Sligo in the opening round of the Connacht championship played in Curry last Thursday evening.  Final score was Roscommon 6-15 Sligo 2-6.   Roscommon were on top from the very first whistle. However the scores were slow in coming and it was seven minutes in before Roscommon scored through Scally. Sligo struck for a goal shortly after that when S. Scully took a pass from R Murphy and shot to the Roscommon net.   Roscommon then swung into action and a goal and a point from M Harney saw them back in business. Then Roscommon scored a couple of great goals to establish a foothold in the game through S Brudell who got both goals. Sligo replied with a couple of points but S Brudell completed her hat-trick before half-time to leave the score at the interval Roscommon 4-7 Sligo 1-2.   Roscommon dominated again on the resumption and six points on the trot were a measure of their superiority. S Brudell scored another Roscommon goal before Sligo came back with a goal of their own.   This was good display from Roscommon but Sligo were weak opposition – however with a bit of luck and dedication this side can be successful.
