Four Roads (Roscommon) v Killimordaly (Galway) on Sunday in Athleague at 2 pm
Seamus Duke
Four Roads will attempt to build on their good display in the semi-final against Ballyhaunis when they meet Galway intermediate champions Killimordaly in Sunday’s Connacht final at Athleague. It will be a tall order though as Killimordaly are a very strong side who were defeated in the 2011 IHC final in Galway, and who justified favouritism in this year’s championship when beating Ahascragh/Fohenagh in the final by three points.

County Championships coming up

40x20 County Championship: The Interclub titles are up for grabs at Junior B, Junior, Intermediate and Open grades. This year sees a radical overhaul of the format of this competition. There will be no singles as part of the ‘team of four’ format and instead combined points from two games of doubles will decide the result. More controversially, the games will now be timed and scores will be awarded on winning any rally, not just while serving. People will need convincing about this pilot format, given that strong serving is neutralised somewhat, as is a strong offensive (killing) game.

“Yeah I’m happy. The first ten minutes of the second half was key. We upped it a good bit and I think everyone saw that. It was a real November performance. Everyone dogged in and worked hard. Some of the lads got tired but we brought in other lads and we kept the intensity levels high.

Oran’s run brought to abrupt end by Ballinasloe

AIB Connacht Club JFC Final

Salthill/Knocknacarra (Galway) v St Brigids (Roscommon) on Sunday at Pearse Stadium at 2.30 pm

This is a very eagerly awaited Connacht semi-final as St Brigids’ quest for a third provincial title in a row continues at the home of the Galway champions on Sunday. An interesting twist to the clash will be that former St Faithleachs and Roscommon captain Gary Cox will be lining out for the Galway men against Brigids on Sunday. Gary was on the St Faithleachs side which lost to Brigids in the county finals in 2006 and 2007.
