Shannonview Lodge snapped up for €214,000

A local businessman snapped up the former Portrunny pub ‘The Shannonview Lodge’ sold for a bargain €214,000 at public auction last Thursday at The Central Bar in Roscommon town.

The auction, which was hosted by Roscommon town estate agents, Property Partners Earley, attracted a good turnout, with members of the public including many Portrunny residents curious to see whether the establishment, which had been owned by the McDermott family for a number of years, was about to change hands.  Auctioneer John Earley described the three-bedroomed public house, which stands on approximately 1.7 acres, as having “unlimited potential for the future”.

“The future is there,” he said as he extolled the virtues of Portrunny as a location for a business geared towards hospitality.

Starting the bidding at €130,000, Mr. Earley even opined that he had never seen such a property before in his 40 years as an auctioneer.  The bidding was perhaps slower than expected at times as the price edged towards €200,000. When it reached €210,000 it was decided that the auctioneers would consult with the current owners. Following a brief break, it was decided to offer the 7-day licensed premises around the room once more. The bids appeared to be settling at the €212,000 mark before a local businessman sealed the deal at €214,000.

A 7-day licensed premises with unlimited potential in an area which has seen plenty of positive development work, it could be a dream come through for its new owner.
