Young Environmentalists in national finals
Students from Roscommon have been shortlisted for the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards finals, which will be held in the Round Room of the Mansion House, Dublin, on May 22nd.
The groups from Coláiste Chiaráin, Athlone and Convent of Mercy, Roscommon advanced to the finals with inventive projects raising awareness on topics such as shark endangerment and how to use bins correctly.
Earlier this year, the groups were tasked with coming up with action projects that would make a real contribution to the environment at a local level.
Once this was complete, students had to pitch their ideas to a panel of experts at the Connaught ECO-DEN – a Dragon’s Den style pitch meeting.
The projects were subsequently shortlisted with almost 80 others for the finals of the Young Environmentalist Awards.
Although the main objective for the finals is to impress the judges and take home a much-coveted award, the students also need your support for the People’s Choice Award. Members of the public have the power to choose the winner of this category and from May 9th-May 20th you can vote online for your favourite project at www.ecounesco.ie.
