The Sinn Féin spokesperson for Roscommon, Claire Kerrane, has said that the Rosalie residents and their families have been treated “disgracefully” by both the Government and the HSE. “It was way back in January when it became apparent that the Rosalie Unit was again under threat of closure. Seven months later, we are none the wiser as to the future care for the 12 residents who call it home.
“The HSE have made their decision. They intend to close the Rosalie Home. They have chosen not to wait for the clinical assessment and they have chosen not to consult with the families or to listen to them. So, it is now up to the Government to shout stop.
“It is now up to our public representatives, particularly those in Government – Minister Denis Naughten, Senator Maura Hopkins and Deputy Eugene Murphy – to step up.
“The Rosalie Home cannot be allowed to close. We are talking about the most vulnerable people in our society. They must be protected and it is our Government’s job to do so,” she said.
