Funds for Garda Youth Diversion projects welcomed

Local Fine Gael Area Representative Andrew Reynolds has welcomed the funds provided by Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan for the Garda Youth Diversion Projects services which are mainly focused on larger urban centres and towns and called on him to consider having the project integrated into the midlands. Speaking this week, the local businessman – who has announced his intention to run in the local elections in 2019 – urged Minister Flanagan to consider “having the project integrated into smaller rural communities where we see anti-social behaviour and drug problems becoming a major concern, and more prevalent on an almost daily basis.

“With the influx of new families of various different backgrounds and cultural differences, these services need to now be made available to those who now live in rural areas and I am delighted to report that an estimated 4,000 young offenders have been helped by Garda Youth Diversion Projects last year.

“This programme provides an important crime prevention support in our communities and also helps to create a brighter future for young people and I would be confident and optimistic that it could make a real and positive difference in the Roscommon region if implemented”.
