The Roscommon Ploughing Championships will take place on the lands of John and Mary Curley at Carntleva, Four Roads on Sunday, April 29th.
Speaking at the recent launch of this year’s event at Hannon’s Hotel, Chairman Tom Tighe called on those present to support this year’s event.
“I’d ask you all to support (the championships) and encourage friends to support it too and to support farming in general”.
PRO John Hanley said there would be “fun for all the family” before thanking the championships’ main sponsors.
“Roscommon Mart is the main sponsor of this year’s event and without their input and that of other sponsors, it would not be possible to stage such an impressive event,” he said, before thanking the Curleys and other local families for facilitating the championships.
The ploughing competitions will commence at 12 pm on Sunday (29th) and will feature junior and senior competitions, horse ploughing, vintage ploughing and loy competitions. A sheepdog trial under Con McGarry will also form part of this year’s event while there will be a trade stand for local businesses.
