Rathcroghan Visitor Centre features at international tourism event

Rathcroghan Visitor Centre was amongst a number of local tourism businesses which recently promoted County Roscommon and ‘Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands’ to influential international buyers and tour operators at Fáilte Ireland’s Meitheal, Ireland’s largest annual travel trade show.

The local tourism businesses including Athlone Castle, Clonalis House, Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Arigna Mining Experience, Hodson Bay Group, Kilronan Castle, Strokestown Park House, Lough Key Forest and Activity Park, and Heart of Ireland Tours were all represented at the event in Dublin’s CityWest Hotel.

This promotion built on the launch to the international tourism sector of the ‘Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands’ brand earlier in the week – and a visit by tourism buyers from 22 countries, including key markets such as China, India, the Middle East, Britain, the US and Mainland Europe to Arigna Mines, Kilronan Castle, Clonalis House and Strokestown Park House

Deputy Denis Naughten has highlighted the significance of the local presence at this event.

“The development of the Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands tourism brand is key to ensuring that counties Roscommon, East Galway, Westmeath and Longford can develop their tourism sectors and create long term sustainable employment locally.

“Currently in the Roscommon-Galway area overseas tourists support approximately 1,000 jobs and with promotions such as this we can grow the number of international tourists to our region supporting additional job creation” concluded Denis Naughten.
