A new interactive heritage tour app, which was commissioned by Roscommon Town Team and produced by Mimar Media, was launched recently at the Roscommon Arts Centre. The app provides the user with a self-guided Interactive Heritage Tour of Roscommon town.
Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council Cllr. Orla Leyden described the app as a “highly valuable tool for tourism promotion” and said it put Roscommon on the Interactive Map along with other walking tour experiences in places like Amsterdam, Siena, Bath and San Francisco.
“This self-guided Interactive Heritage Tour brings us on a journey through time in Roscommon heritage town. Through striking footage it brings 10 places of heritage interest to life, featuring interviews with locals and historians that passionately recount the various heritage aspects and stories of our County Town.
“Well designed signage at the ten locations direct locals and visitors alike to access the interactive tour using a mobile device through a QR code app as they enjoy this 5 km walk which will take the average heritage explorer 2 hours to complete.
“I would like to thank all of the contributors who are the stars of the show for their time and for sharing their knowledge and interest in our rich heritage. The presenters were informed, articulate and engaging throughout.
“The production team can take a bow for developing accessible and engaging material that leaves the visitor ready to explore Roscommon Town’s incredible heritage and to learn more – it portrays a sense of place and gets to the very heart of our town”.
Cllr. Leyden went on to praise those involved in producing the app including Mimar Media, Roscommon Town Team, Roscommon Tidy Towns, Roscommon County Council FD Design, Roscommon Heritage groups and all those who acted as presenters.
