Two local musicians are calling on Roscommon music lovers for their support in tonight’s (Thursday) Battle of the Bands semi-final at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Athlone.

Danny O’Connor from Lecarrow and Ronan McAlary from Cornafulla are collectively known as ‘Exit 13’. O’Connor is on mandolin and vocals while McAlary is on guitar and vocals.

The lads made it through the first heat on June 21st and go up against two other bands this evening as they look to win the audience vote.

Danny says the competition has led to further opportunities for the two musicians.

“We saw an ad for the Battle of the Bands on Facebook and we said we’d go for it. We got through our first heat and we got a call from The Skeff in Galway straight after offering us a gig on Saturday night during Race Week. We’re hoping this leads us to becoming really busy with gigs”.

The two lads, who play a wide mix of music including Irish trad, American bluegrass, Country and modern pop, hope to build on the experience and start writing their own music. For now though, they’re calling on all Rossies to come along to The Prince this evening from 10 pm and support them as they attempt to win the Battle of the Bands and claim a prize worth €10,000 in music equipment and paid gigs at both The Prince Bar in Athlone and The Skeff in Galway.
