The annual Family Picnic Day takes place on next Sunday July 26th at Donamon Castle, Donamon, Co. Roscommon commencing with Mass at 12.30 pm.

This is a special year as the Open Day is twenty years old. Donamon Castle on the banks of the River Suck is an ideal location for this enjoyable, fun-filled event.

The Open Family Day started in 1995 to raise much-needed funds for the Divine Word Missionaries’ work at home and abroad and for the restoration work on Donamon Castle and this event proves to be a fun-packed and enjoyable day for young and old and for our visitors from abroad.

Donamon Castle is one of the oldest inhabited buildings in Ireland, dating back to 1154.

Great entertainment

This year’s programme incorporates a blend of entertainment to suit all tastes with bands such as The Heebie Jeebies, The Conquerors, Busy Fingers, Castlerea Brass & Reed band and Patsy McCaul. The Duggan School of Dance will also feature on the day!

There are many activities planned for the children with ‘Bozo the clown’ with his many tricks, face-painting, pony and train rides, bouncy castles.

There will also be a variety of various fish on display in association with Inland Fisheries Ireland and of course the popular eagle display!

The Family Day is made possible because of the dedicated work undertaken by a very active committee, local volunteers and the help of many organisations and generous sponsors. Much-appreciated is the help of many agencies such as Roscommon County Council, Gardai, Civil Defence, Roscommon Leader Group, Kilbegnet Development Association Rural Social Scheme and many other local groups too numerous to mention.

The Divine Word Missionaries in Donamon and the organising committee would like to welcome and invite everyone to this enjoyable event. Admission and parking are free.

You are welcome to bring along your own barbeque or enjoy tea, coffee and soft drinks, sandwiches, sweets and ice cream which are available to buy on the day.

Auction & Grand Draw

There will be many spot prizes throughout the day and of course the exciting auction. The day concludes with a grand draw with 1st prize €1500 and many more prizes. Tickets are available to buy throughout the day. We look forward to seeing you on the day!
