Following on the huge success of the first Annual Larry Reynolds Irish Music Weekend in Ballinasloe in September 2014, this week’s event – which will be held from Friday to Sunday – will be bigger and busier.
It promises to be a weekend of remembrance, music, song, dance and craic.
Larry Reynolds hailed from the townland of Shanboley, Ahascragh, with his fiddle under his arm, emigrated to Boston in 1953 where he settled and made his home.
Over time he became a highly influential fiddle player, not only for his east Galway style of playing but also because of the contribution he made to Irish culture in Boston and all over North America.
The festival weekend kicks off with Larry Reynolds Memorial Concert, which takes place on Friday, 8 pm in the Town Hall, Ballinasloe.
The concert will showcase some of the finest exponents of Irish Music and will feature Citizen Keane – Sean, Matt, Noel and Pat Keane – members of the famous Keane family from Caherlistrane in Co. Galway, The Matt Cunningham Band and members of Larry’s extended family.
Without doubt this concert in Ballinasloe Town Hall with it’s superb acoustics and featuring the country’s finest performers will be a splendid start to the weekend. Tickets for the concert are €18, booking is recommended and are available by phoning 087-9046140.
Saturday morning kicks off with music and Sean Nós Dance workshops in Ballinasloe Town Hall and The Emerald Ballroom.
Workshops will be held at intermediate level in the morning and advanced in the afternoon and will be followed by a tutor’s recital at 6 pm in The Pillar House.
A thrilling line-up of events is also in store for throughout Sunday.
