Roscommon too strong for Mayo 


Roscommon defeated Mayo on Sunday evening last in Four Roads in the All-Ireland Minor Camogie Championship on the score of 4-5 to 1-6. Roscommon got off to a great start and were two goals up after 10 minutes – the goals coming from Ciara Ryan and Rachel Fallon. A Ciara Kelly goal helped Roscommon into a 3-1 to 1-4 half-time lead.         

  Roscommon got off to a great start again in the 2nd half when Niamh Watson sent over a fine point. Mayo were awarded a penalty in the l0th minute of the game but Niamh Cunnane drove the ball over for a point.  

  Roscommon introduced Deirdre Regan for Ciara Kelly (Four Roads) midway through the half. Deirdre made an immediate impact and sent over a point in the 16th minute of the half. This was followed up with a goal from Nicola Crean, now playing at full-forward. 

  Maeve Brennan was introduced in the forward-line for Ann Marie Beirne and Shauna Keenan was introduced for Noeleen McCormack. Ciara Kelly from Athleague scored a point from a free for Roscommon and Aisling McConn scored a point from a ’45 for Roscommon, whilst Mayo had another point from a free from Niamh Cunnane to leave the full-time score Roscommon 4-5 Mayo 1-6.  

  Roscommon’s next outing is against the losers of the Westmeath/Laois game on Sunday, 12th July, 2009.
