Roscommon stages a two-day racing festival on Monday, 6th July and Tuesday, 7th July, 2009.
Roscommon Race Committee must have been very happy with the attendances at the previous Monday meeting, as Roscommon was one of the few racecourses in Ireland that showed an increase on all figures from previous year.
On Monday, 6th action kicks off at 5.40 pm. This is the traditional Ladies Day at Roscommon and features the Roscommon Best Dressed Ladies Competition with over 2,000 in cash prizes for the first 3 ladies. The celebrity judge on the evening is Lisa Fitzpatrick.
The racing programme itself consists of 3 flat, 3 hurdle and a bumper. The first race if the Lenebane Stakes (listed) with 42,500 in prize-money. The first race on the card can be a very interesting contest as it was in this race last year that the champion filly Again made her racing debut. She has since gone on to win Group 1 and Group 2 races and won this years Irish 1000 Guineas.
On Tuesday 7th July racing commences at 6.00 pm. The racing programme is 3 flat, 3 hurdle and the final race is a mares bumber for lady jockeys only. This particular race is sponsored by I.T.B.A. (Western Region).
It is tradition for lots of future winners to come out of this 2-day festival and indeed with Galway looming no doubt patrons are advised that some future festival winners will be on show.
Top class flat and national hunt racing on both days. Also free bets on race card competition. Admission: Adults 13.00; OAP and Students 8.00. Group discounts available.
