Online frenzy

Teagasc has doubled the number of applications submitted online for the Single Farm Payment on behalf of farmers this year.

The deadline for applying for the SFP scheme closed on Friday, 15th May, with late applications, subject to penalties, accepted by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, up to the end of May.

In 2008, 25 percent of all SFP applications submitted through Teagasc were done online, this has doubled to 50 percent in the application period just completed. Almost 20,000 applications were submitted online by Teagasc and advisers have found that the system has helped to reduce the paper volume and the risk of simple errors.
