Female Dragon, Sarah Newman will be a special guest at the RosWIN Fair, in Roscommon Town Square, on Saturday next, May 2nd.
At the fair, the businesswoman will launch a search for ten committed female entrepreneurs from the county who will go on to complete a business progression course.
The Fair will open to the public at 10 am with music from the Behan Family, Taughmaconnell. At 12 noon the official opening of the Fair will take place by Peter Wrafter of Roscommon County Enterprise Board, along with Mary Conry Candler, Chairperson of RosWIN and Sarah Newman, best known as the only female on Dragon’s Den.
Sarah came to Ireland in 1994 and employed 95 people before selling her company recently. Sarah was an ideal choice to attend the Fair, as she set up her own business out of a one-room apartment. She had nothing when she started her business, and she knew no-one in Ireland. She believes that, in this current economic climate, people should offer their business colleagues whatever support they can. “We have to reduce costs and tighten our belts. We have to make savings but also be mindful to support local businesses. It is vital that we offer friends, family and business associates more caring support.”
At the fair, Sarah will launch a competition to find ten committed female entrepreneurs in Co. Roscommon who will then take part in a specially designed business progression programme. It is envisaged that successful participants will progress from start up (research stage) to turnover in the region of €5,000 by the end of the six month period through a specially designed programme of coaching and mentoring. Forms and further details will be available at the ‘How to get started in business’ stand at the RosWIN Fair on Saturday 2nd May 2009. The closing date is Friday 29th May 2009.
