Lots of local club action over Easter weekend

Seamus Duke

Abbey Hotel League Division One

St Brigids v St Croans (on Friday in Kiltoom at 8 pm)

St Brigids edged out Western Gaels by a point in a championship rehearsal last weekend. They should be too good for St Croans at Kiltoom this weekend.

Prediction: St Brigids.

Castlerea St Kevins v Elphin (on Monday at 12.30 pm)

Elphin were not in action last weekend but Castlerea St. Kevins were defeated again and they will want to start picking up points fairly soon or they will be in relegation trouble. This will be a tight game, but needs must, and I think that Castlerea might just edge it.

Prediction: Castlerea.

Kilmore v St Faithleachs (on Monday at 2 pm in Kilmore)

Kilmore scored an easy win against St. Aidans last weekend while St.   Faithleachs were three-point winners against Clann na nGael. This could well be the game of the weekend and Kilmore at home are very hard to beat – so I will give then a hesitant nod to win it.

Prediction: Kilmore.

Strokestown v Padraig Pearses (on Monday in Strokestown at 12 noon)

Another tight game in prospect. Strokestown had a good win against Castlerea last week while Pearses were not in action. There will not be much in this game but Pearses look strong again this year – and they might edge it.

Prediction: Padraig Pearses.

Clann na nGael v St Aidans (on Monday in Johnstown at 1.30 pm)

The clash of the near-neighbours. Aidans were well beaten last weekend while Clann lost by three points. Aidans are hard to beat in these games but at home I expect that Clann will take the points.

Prediction: Clann na nGael.

John Corcoran O’Gara Cup

Creggs v Clann na Gael (on Saturday in Creggs at 6.30 pm)

Creggs have been struggling in this division and Clann at home should take the points.

Prediction: Clann na nGael.

St Michaels v Ballinameen (on Saturday at Cootehall at 6.30 pm)

Michaels have been going well since they started training earlier this year and they should be good enough to take the points against Ballinameen.

Prediction: St Michaels.

Michael Glaveys v Shannon Gaels (on Saturday in Ballinlough at 6.30 pm)

A very tight game in prospect here between two sides that look evenly matched. Glaveys have improved after a poor start to the season for them. At home I give them the hesitant nod to take the points.

Prediction: Michael Glaveys.

St Dominics v Tulsk (in Knockcroghery on Saturday at 6.30 pm)

The game of the weekend in this division. Both sides will be hoping to do well in the forthcoming IFC and if both sides field strong teams it will be a good game. I’ll stick with the home side to win.

Prediction: St Dominics.

St Brigids v Roscommon Gaels (in Hyde Park on Monday at 12.30 pm)

The Gaels have a 100% record in this division as they try get back into Division 1. They should win here too.

Prediction: Roscommon Gaels.

St Barrys v Boyle (on Monday in Tarmonbarry at 2 pm)

Another tight game in prospect here. Barrys are hard to beat at home but Boyle are going well. Only a point or two likely to be in it. I’ll take a chance on Boyle.

Prediction: Boyle.
