“The Sacred Heart Hospital in Roscommon town has not escaped the pressures of cost-cutting. But in this case cost-cutting could have serious implications for patients and their families,” according to Roscommon Hospital Action Committee.
“The Sacred Heart Hospital provides a hugely important service for older people in the County and without it many people could not get access to care for their family members.
“It is Health Service Executive policy not to replace staff that are out on sick leave, or holiday leave as is the case in most of the public service areas. This puts increased pressure on existing staff and none more so than in the coalface of providing services in a place like the Sacred Heart Hospital.
“The Hospital Action Committee this week is calling on the Health Service Executive not to leave nursing staff and nursing aids in situations where they are under even more pressure to carry out their duties. Support these front line professionals to do their jobs so that patients come first.”
