The Liffey Descent is the most significant paddling event held in Ireland on an annual basis. This competition entails an 18-mile course, where up to 1,000 competitors from Ireland and Europe race down the River Liffey. This sporting occasion tests the skill and stamina of all participants, as it combines extensive sections of flat water with white water weirs.
Recently, several members of Portrun Kayaking Club completed this kayaking marathon. Congratulations to you all… as weather conditions were very tough and water levels were high.
Lorraine Byrne (pictured) completed the course with an excellent time and finished twelfth in the ladies section. Other club news… A training course for beginners/new members will take place on Sunday 29th October. Please contact Liam, for further details (Phone after six – 086 8613848). Also, many thanks to club members who provided support and assistance during recent triathlon events, which took place in Ballinasloe, Portrun and Athleague.
