Roscommon SHC (all games on Sunday in Athleague)
St Dominics v Padraig Pearses at 1.30 pm
Dominics have an outside chance of making it to the semi-finals but they will have to win both their remaining games. Despite the fact that Pearses are aleady through, it is unlikely that they will field a weak team as they will want to maintain their momentum. Dominics have only a point so far from their four games so it is likely that their interest in the SHC will end on Sunday.
Prediction: Padraig Pearses.
Oran v Roscommon Gaels at 3 pm
There is a remote possibility that Oran could still qualify but they would have to win both their remaining games by cricket scores and hope that other unlikely results happen if they are to have any hope. Roscommon Gaels are in need too. They will have to win both their remaining games if they want to be certain of a last-four place. With Gerry Fallon absent, the Gaels might just be the stronger and they should be able to keep their championship year alive.
Prediction: Roscommon Gaels.
Athleague v Tremane at 4.30 pm
Undoubtedly the game of the day. Both sides need to win to keep their chances alive. Atheague’s need is greater as this is their last game and if they are beaten by their near-neighbours then the dream of three in a row titles is gone. Athleague have been plagued with injuries this year and they will need their full team for this game. Tremane have improved greatly this year and nothing would please them more than to win this local derby. It will be close but Athleague might just scrape it if Mervyn Connaughton is on form.
