Mayor’s concern on flooding

Shane Reynolds

The torrential rain which has fallen at different stages in recent weeks has led to a number of properties in the Sligo and Roscommon region being damaged as we witness one of the worst summers that Ireland has endured in recent times.

Ballyfarnon in north Roscommon was one of the areas which were worst affected with damage being caused to properties due to the extensive flooding and landslides which has taken place in recent days.

Concern

There is concern about the potential damage which may be caused to sewage treatment plants in the area which have become submerged in flood water but Ballyfarnon residents will not discover the full extent of the damage until an assessment has been made.

Mayor of Roscommon Cllr. Michael McGreal told the Roscommon People that the River Suck is very badly flooded. He said he wished to sympathise with farmers who have been badly affected by the inclement weather.

“In many ways we have escaped the worst of it in the West this time but I still have pity for farmers particularly. I had to ask Council staff to act in a number of instances. Hopefully the worst is over.”
