Man charged with manslaughter

Pauline Scott & Paul Healy

There was shock and a great sense of sadness in Roscommon town this week following the fatal stabbing of a young woman, a popular member of Roscommon’s large Brazilian community. The woman, Kezia Gomes Rosa, had lived and worked in Roscommon town for about eighteen months.

A 36-year-old man appeared before a special sitting of Carrick-on-Shannon District Court last night (Wednesday) charged with the manslaughter of Kezia Gomes Rosa at Lanesboro Street, Roscommon, on Tuesday. Amilton Leonel de Olivera, with an address at Lanesboro Street, Roscommon, was remanded in custody by Judge Conal Gibbons to appear at Friday’s sitting of Harristown District Court in Castlerea.
