Ballinasloe Town will be going for a league and cup double this weekend when they take on Skyvalley Rovers at the Shiven Rovers ground in Newbridge at 3 pm on Sunday next.
Ballinasloe Town have been a leading light in Roscommon soccer for a long time and first won the Cup in 1987. Town won their first back-to-back league titles this season under Enda Concannon who has built a good side with a blend of young and experienced players. Many of the team have come from the club’s schoolboy set-up within the club.
The start of this season saw Ballinasloe Town having three managers, but in the end it was Enda Concannon who took on the job and led the club back to the top and won the battle with Dysart to win the league title.
Ballinasloe Town were made to fight all the way in the semi final by Cloonfad United and won the game in extra time thanks to a goal by Henry Loughnane to book their place.
Players to watch in the final are Garry Egan, a class defender whose work rate is second to none in the back four and Henry Loughnane who is near the end of his playing career, has been a great servant to the club over many season.
