Roscommon Town Notes

Recent deaths

Ms. Aideen Barrett (nee O’Keefe), sister of Terry O’Keefe, Antogher Road, passed away in Cyprus recently. The funeral took place at the Sacred Heart Church last Wednesday morning and was followed by burial at St. Coman’s cemetery.

Mrs. Rena Bryan, mother of Mildred Feely, Antogher Road, passed away recently. 

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Mr. Clement Gavin, formerly of Abbey Street, and brother of Ms. Eithne Gavin, The Fairways.  

  Fr. Stephen Mahony, late of Dundalk, brother of Sr. Bridie, The Walk and Frances Hennigan passed away last week. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.


Parish Council meeting

A meeting of Roscommon Town parish council will take place on Tuesday 1st April in Parochial House at 8.00 p.m.  All members are invited to attend.


Divine Mercy Sunday

Divine Mercy Sunday will be celebrated on Sunday next 30th March commencing at three o’clock in the Church. Chaplet, enthronement of Divine Mercy Image and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be followed by Benediction.  


Recent Baptisms 

The Sacred Heart Church in Roscommon recently welcomed Joshua Martin Gilleran into the Christian Family.


Chapel to re-open

The Blessed Sacrament Chapel re-opened at 11 a.m. on Tuesday 25th March.


Eucharistic Adorers  

Permanent Adorers are required for 4 –5 a.m. Tues. night/Wed. morning and 12 noon—1 p.m. on Wednesday.  Please phone Parish Office @ 66 26298 if you can help or contact any of the Clergy.  Thank you. 


Forthcoming stations

Station masses will be held in the home of Ms. Peggy Finn, Goff Street, this Friday, 28th March @ 8:00 p.m and in the home of Ms. Nuala Holian, Racecourse Road, this Saturday, 29th March @ 12 noon.


Pioneers AGM

Rosary and heroic offering will be said in the Church during exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Fri. 4th April  (7:30—8 pm).  Applications for membership of the Pioneer Association will be taken after Mass in St. Coman’s Club.

The A.G.M. of the Pioneer Association will also take place in St. Coman’s Club at 8:30 p.m. on Friday 4th April and the local Centre invites all Pioneers in the Parish to make a special effort to attend this Meeting.

Medjugorje peace Mass

The Medjugorje peace Mass will commence on Tuesday 1st April at St. Coman’s Club, Roscommon.  It will start with Rosary at 8 p.m.  Refreshments will be served.  Mass will be held on the first Tuesday of every month.  On occasions, there will be guest speakers, talks and testimonies.  Everyone welcome.


Accord appeal

Beekeeping 

The next meeting of the Suck Valley Beekeepers’ Association will be held in the Community Centre, Ballygar on Monday 31st March at 8:30 p.m.  New members always welcome.  Please note change of date.


Flora Women’s Mini Marathon

Run, Walk or jog on Monday 2nd June, in aid of Arthritis Ireland and help support the 714,000 men, women & children affected by Arthritis in Ireland.  Contact Caroline or Susan at  01 661 8188 or email fundraising@arthritisireland.ie to get your Free sponsorship pack including t-shirt to wear on the day.  All funds raised will go towards providing vital patient support to the 1 in 6 Irish people affected by arthritis.


Guitar lessons 

Beginners’ guitar age 9—16 yrs. starts on Monday 31st March at 6:30 p.m.  Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  No other vacancies.  Call for brochure / application form on 087 939  4427.


Vita House News

Enrol for new classes in Tai Chi start after Easter, classes beginning on 31st March @ 6.30 pm.  Early booking advisable.  Herbs for life course taking place on 12th April from 10 am to 5 pm. Bookings are now being taken. Move on & Re-Build. A series of special design programmes on various topics for separated people — the course begins on 16th April, at 8 pm. Early booking advisable.  

Four working groups have been established to assist Vita House to meet the challenges of a changing & expanding Roscommon town & county. The four groups are (i) Building, Finance, Fundraising & the Corporate sector; (ii) Specific projects; (iii) Marketing & Media; (iv) Research & Development. We kindly invite you to consider being a volunteer of one of these working groups. Contact  Vita House.  

S.T.E.P.S Programme starts Monday, 31st March, from 6.30 p.m. to

Roscommon Garden Club

Roscommon Garden Club will hold a Meeting on Monday 31st March at 8 pm in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon.  The guest speaker will be Ms. Jill Scott.  Jill is an award winning gardener and Lecturer at the Organic Centre, Rossinver, Co. Leitrim.  Jill’s topic will be “Basic Organic Gardening”.  All are welcome.


Clare Burren Marathon

Living links volunteers

North West Roscommon CDP & Ballaghaderreen MHA are hosting a 3 day training course for people interested in above, providing practical help, information and support to persons and families bereaved by Suicide, in Durkin’s Hotel, Ballaghaderreen Saturdays 29th March, 5th & 12th April 9 am to 4.30 pm.  Training is free.
