It has been a good spell, a good few weeks, for Frankie Dolan. He has been called back on to the county panel by John Maughan and he has captained his team to another success in Roscommon –and into another Connacht final.
I asked him was it hard to get the players’ feet back on the ground after scoring 4-10 in the Connacht semi-final.
“We were back in training on the Wednesday and Friday night after the Killererin game. We had a few harsh words tonight and everyone is back to normal now. We know that we have won nothing yet so we have to prepare hard for Ballina now” he says.
Frankie says that Brigids will be up against it on Sunday. “They are a very tough side to beat, especially on their home pitch. They know the surroundings well and it’s an advantage because we have never played there before.
“Given their record they have to be favourites going into this game. Hopefully on the day if we play well and get a big support behind us, we can do it” he continued.
Frankie says that there is a great spirit in the Brigids team this year.
“Yes, there is a good spirit in this Brigids team. We were a few points down in the first quarter against Killererin but we didn’t panic and hopefully we can do that again on Sunday next” he said.
“There is a great panel there at the moment. We were training there tonight and there was 35 players out. The panel is very strong and it’s great to see. Look at ‘Jimmy Nail’ for instance – he came back the last day and kicked some brilliant scores. We hope that will happen next Sunday and maybe the half-forward line will chip in with more scores this time” he said.
“We are really looking forward to this game. We hope that we will have a big support. We are representing Roscommon and we hope that there is a huge crowd there. It would be fantastic to take another Connacht title and that’s what we are gong to Ballina for on Sunday” he concluded.
