Kilglass, Kilmore draw again as poignant saga continues

Cahill’s Supervalu Minor Div. 3 Football Final replay

Kilglass Gaels 1-12 Kilmore 1-9 (after extra-time)

Truly remarkable, truly poignant. Neighbours Kilglass and Kimore have drawn again, and after extra-time too, as the destination of the Brian King Cup remains in the balance. The tragic death of Brian in a traffic accident a number of weeks ago led to the existence of a cup in the popular youth’s name and certainly the footballers of Kilmore and Kilglass – the latter, the late Brian King’s club – are commemorating his memory in poignant and moving fashion with this epic and ongoing contest.

Sunday’s encounter in Tarmonarry was an excellent game. The early exchanges wer close, with both sides taking their chances quite well, Kilglass moving into a 0-6 to 0-4 lead by half-time.

Kilmore however moved in front with a goal and a point early in the second half, the goal a fortuitous score which really set the contest up for a great finale. Kilglass settled again but just when they had back into the ascendancy Kilmore struck for a second goal, Paul Garvey converting after being set up by Stephan Gannon.

What a thriller was now unfolding. Andrew Kelly netted for Kilglass to keep fans on tenderhooks, Kilglass now one clear. Garvey however took the game to extra-time with a converted free. The scores continued to be exchanged before Baker-Kenny grabbed an equalizer at the end to leave the sides inseparable again.
