News that trees are to be planted at Goff Street,
Main Street and the Square in Roscommon has been welcomed this week by local
councillor Paula McNamara.
“Unfortunately
they will have to be planted in containers as there are too manylines
underground, lines for electricity, broadband and water, but they will be a
great addition to the appearance of the town and the environment.”
Regarding
the cutting down of the beautiful mature chestnut trees at Circular Road,
County Manager John Tiernan has assured Cllr. McNamara that they will be
replaced with similar trees in a more suitable position. Cllr. McNamara is
asking the council that if any more trees have to be removed to widen roads,
that they be transplanted and not cut down.
