In inter club news good luck to our Jack O’Sullivan team who play Ballinamore on this Thursday. In the King Harmon Tom Rochford will play Willie Tiernan in the first semi-final. The second semi-final will be between Terry Canning and either Patrick Egan or Shane O’Dowd.
Good luck to Roscommon next weekend against Tyrone and to Sligo in the Connacht Final against Mayo. Good luck also to Roscommon in the Minor Final against Mayo.
Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club
Jim King’s Captains Prize takes place on Saturday July 28th and for the top 81 qualifiers on Sunday July 29th. This year qualifying scores will carry into Sunday with the top 27 competing for a further 9 holes on Sunday evening. Timesheet is available to book online now. On Friday July 13th 9-hole competition over holes 1-5 & 15-18 with re-entry.
This week’s Inter Club action centres around the Cecil Ewing Zone semi-final action away v Ballina on Saturday next July 14th – also on Saturday qualifying for Junior Cup takes place in Strandhill.
Castlerea Golf Club
Remember that for the month of July there is a draw for an over-night stay with dinner for 2 people in McWilliam Park Hotel for all competitors in either men or ladies competitions who record a hole-in-one during the month.
There is a 9-hole competition for men on Friday sponsored by our Lady President Mamie Creaton. Next week's competition is sponsored by Tony Reilly Accountants, to be played on Sunday only.
Good luck to our Cecil Ewing team who play Ballinasloe on Saturday afternoon. We have two matches at home with match commencing at 5 pm. Please come out to support the team.
Anyone interested in playing in the Mixed Foursomes scheduled for 27th July and who may not have arranged a partner can put their names on list placed in clubhouse. We will try and organise partners. The next open Seniors competition for ladies and gents is scheduled for 17th July.
Roscommon Golf Club
Roscommon inter-club teams were defeated in a number of competitions during the week. The final of the Fred Daly Plate for boys under 18 between Ballinrobe and Roscommon took place over the weekend with five games played in each venue. There was excellent golf played by all the competitors and, although Roscommon lost out, the team can hold their heads high as the match went right down to the last hole in the final matches.
The seniors over-60’s team were beaten by Strandhill in the J.B. Carr competition. The ladies lost also lost to Ballinrobe in the Senior Foursomes which was played in Claremorris on Sunday.
The ladies Senior Cup team have qualified for the All-Ireland finals in Grange on August 17th & 18th where they will play Kilkenny in the first round. In conjunction with this the ladies are running a three-ball open team event which will take place at the club on August 11th. The entry fee per team is €45 per team and we encourage as many teams as possible (both men's teams and ladies’) to take part in what promises to be a very enjoyable day at the club. Details can be found on the notice board and the timesheet is available in the bar. Ladies are reminded that a White Elephant competition will be played on Tuesday July 24th. Details of this 'bring a prize & win a prize' competition are on the ladies notice board.
On this Thursday Roscommon will play Mountbellew in the Jack O’Sullivan competition and on Friday Roscommon will play Athlone in the Cecil Ewing competition. Members wish both teams the best of luck and are urged to come out and give them support.
The winner of the ladies Tuesday competition, sponsored by Molloy’s Lifestyle, was Kay Ruane with 38 points and Roisin Timothy was second with 36 points. Frank Mullen won the Thursday’s seniors’ competition. In second place was Charlie McDonnell and Seamus Hayden was third.
On the Open Day Friday Keith Coyle, from Athlone, won the men’s competition with 43 points and John Kennedy was second with 40 points. Orla Quinn won the ladies’ competition with 41 points. The winning team in the Crumlin Rumble, sponsored by Fleming’s Supervalu, on Saturday was Noel Farrell, Charlie Farrell and Kevin Henry with a score of 88 points.
The overall winner of the men’s Sunday competition, sponsored by Roscommon Tile Centre, was Michael Healy with 43 points. The winner of Category A was John Connaughton with 40 points. Category B was won by Paul McNally with 41 points and Tony Grehan won Category C with 39 points. Sheila Fallon won the ladies 9-hole competition with 20 points.
The coming week is a high point in the ladies’ golfing year with the competition for the Lady Captain Marina Dolan’s prize taking place over 36 holes stroke on Tuesday and Saturday. All the members wish our ever gracious and hard-working Lady Captain Marina a very successful competition.
There will be a 12-hole competition for the Lady Captain’s prize to the men on Saturday. The winner of the Lady Captain’s prize to the juniors, which was played last Saturday, was Roisin Timothy with 40 points. April Timothy was second with 39 points and Chloe O’Connor was third with 37 points.
