All-Ireland Junior Camogie Championship
Roscommon 2-6 Kildare 2-17
Roscommon put up a brave display against Kildare in Athleague last Saturday but they were beaten by a better side in the end and had no complaints at the final whistle.
Two goals inside the first six minutes of play for Kildare set the tone. Louise Keatley was first to raise a green flag within two minutes and then after six minutes it was Siobhan Hurley who found the Roscommon net. It was always going to be hard for the home side after that.
However Roscommon started their challenge in emphatic fashion when Annette McGeeney scored a fine goal on nine minutes but then five points in a row for Kildare saw the visitors pull away to lead by eight points after 22 minutes.
Kelly Hopkins scored two Roscommon frees before Shauna Keenan fired home a well-taken goal for Roscommon to narrow the gap. However Susie O’Carroll scored two Kildare points before the break to leave the Lillywhites five ahead at half-time.
Roscommon competed well in the second half but couldn’t bridge the gap.
Kildare finished the stronger side and a number of well-taken points saw them comfortably home at the finish.
