G&G Electric Junior Hurling Championship Final
Four Roads 0-12
Four Roads reclaimed the G&G Electric Junior hurling championship title when they overcame a disappointing Oran side at Athleague on Tuesday evening last.
They were always in control of this contest but could never put a sufficient lead on the scoreboard to guarentee the win. They were however, the superior team throughout and were deserving winners in the end. Wing-forward Conor Mulry opened the scoring with a sweet point in the first minute. Oranís David Concannon soon cancelled this with a free.
A free by Enda Rogerson and a point from play by full-forward Robert Kelly for Four Roads were answered by two points from play by Oranís Joseph Cassidy, This left the sides tied at three points each after ten minutes of play but this was to be the last time that Oran were to be on level terms.
Four Roads then proceeded to fire over five points to establish a winning lead. These from Enda Rogerson (0-3, two frees) and Cathal Dolan and Robert Kelly. When David Concannon sent over a free for Oran on the stroke of half-time, it was their first score in twenty minutes. This left Four Roads in the lead by 0-8 to 0-4 at half-time.
Four Roads really should have had this game wrapped up in the early stages of the second period with an abundance of possession. they shot four wides and Terence Kelly had a shot for goal brilliantly saved by Oran goalkeeper Padraig McInerney. Eventually, in the 40th minute, full-forward Kelly sent over a good point from play.
Colm Kelly pulled a point back for Oran but Four Roads continued to dominate and points by Rogerson (0-2, one í65) and Cathal Dolan saw them cruise into a seven-point lead.
Oran continued to battle on to the end and were rewarded with points from Thomas Featherstone and Adrian Kelly. However, Four Roads were not to be denied and were worthy county junior champions for 2012.
