Naughten advises parents to be aware of changes to Back to School Allowance

Denis Naughten TD has urged parents who do not automatically qualify for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance to submit their applications to the Department of Social Protection as soon as possible.

He explained: “Those who do qualify automatically will have been notified of their approval under the scheme and these 115,350 families will receive the payment automatically from the 16th of July.

“However, those who did not receive a notification but who believe they do qualify for the payment should now complete an application form and return it to the Department of Social Protection as soon as possible. As this payment is means tested, this will include those in receipt of social welfare payments, on Community Employment or Back to Work schemes.”

Denis Naughten added: “It is important applicants remember to include their mobile phone number on the application as a text message acknowledging receipt of the application will be issued.”

Forms are available from local Social Welfare Offices, via SMS (text “Form BTSCFA” followed by your name and address to 51909) and on www.welfare.ie
