Creggs put some great moves together

Creggs 1-14

Strokestown 2-10

Creggs and Strokestown took to the field in beautiful sunshine in Fuerty for round 9 of the Tansey Cup on Sunday afternoon.

The fine conditions seemed to suit Creggs perfectly for the first 30 minutes as they put some great moves together and picked off some impressive scores. Sean Quinn making his first start of the season at full forward was central to a lot of Creggs’ good play.

Quinn used his strength to good effect to register two first half points. Other scores came from Tom Doyle, Enda O’Roarke, Ronan Kelly, Padraig McKeague and Eugene Hanley, who goaled after nice play from Quinn and Shane Nolan. At halftime Creggs led by 1-10 to 0-04.

The game was far from over however, Quinn was lost to injury and Strokestown started to pick up the majority of breaking ball early in the second half. This led to a huge amount of pressure being put on the Creggs defence and over the next 20 minutes Strokestown levelled the game hitting 2-03 in that period. Creggs looked to be in deep trouble when Jarlath Hughes was also lost to injury and Enda O’ Roarke picked up a second yellow card.

Manager Stephen Brennan made a number of changes, which steadied the ship and Dara Connelly came on in the full forward line.

Hanley and Eamon Kelly moved to the full back line and Colin Canny moved to midfield. It was Connelly who kicked the last two points of the game to secure the victory.
