Future looks bright for hurling

The Allianz Cumann na mBunscol hurling finals were played last Thursday 7th June in a wet and windy Hyde Park Roscommon. A total of 12 school teams qualified for the various finals.

Despite the wet weather conditions crowds of supporters came along to urge on the young hurlers from their local primary schools. Indeed, the spectators were treated to an evening of delightful hurling exhibition.

The players from all 12 schools excelled with their striking, blocking, hooking, solo runs hand passes and great scores. Ballymurray N.S emerged victorious in an exciting Championship Final where they defeated the gallant Gaelscoil de hIde team in the dying seconds of a thrilling game, by scoring a goal that gave them a two-point advantage.

The teams were level at half time. The boys from the Gaelscoil edged ahead all through the second half of this superb final but Ballymurray snatched a victory in the end to earn back-to-back titles in this section. Ballintleva defeated Newtown for the Division 2 crown while the boys from Lisaniskey defeated Tiisrara in Division 3.
