The Matchplay Qualifiers continue this weekend. Please note a slight change. The Army Cup is this Saturday and Sunday with the Dr Harry Rice Foursomes the following weekend.

Boyle Golf Club

Results for last weekends Crumlin Classic will appear next week. Last Thursdays Mens Competition was won by Michael Keville 24pts, 2nd Brendan Gaffney 22pts, 3rd Patrick Egan 22pts. Well done also to Brendan Gaffney who had an “eagle” on the fifth.

  The Foursomes on April 1st was won by James Shivnan & Michael Gilmartin, 2nd Liam Mullaney & Pat Conroy, 3rd Patrick Egan & Vincent Egan.

Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday and an 18 hole stableford on Sunday.  

  The Friday evening scrambles are re-starting on Friday 20th.  Date for your diary is the Voucher Competition on Sunday 22nd.

  The first club draw took place last Sunday evening, well done to the winners 1st Ted Hestor €100, runners up Sandra McCrann & Mandy Toolan €50.  Thanks to all for taking part and good luck in the May draw. If you would like to join please send standing order form to Michael Gilmartin, Carrickmore, Boyle.

  The Club send commiserations to Jimmy Doyle and Family on the recent passing of his brother Paddy Doyle in Enniscorthy. Sympathy also to the Lally family, Ballinafad on the recent passing of Dermot. May they Rest in Peace.


Carrick on Shannon Golf Club

Tommy Mulvey & Chris Lowe advanced to round 3 of the Daily Mail 4Some after a hard fought battle in Strandhill on Easter Sunday last in driving rain and strong winds the two Carrick men held off a strong challenge from Strandhill pair Des Timms & David Lynsey on the back 9 to win 1up. Draw for next round takes place on April 13th 

  Next weekend sees the last of the club championships qualifiers with the Murtagh’s Bar 4Ball Qualifier over Saturday & Sunday. As always book online www.carrickgolfclub.ie

  On Easter Monday last we held a car Treasure hunt as a fundraising event and the club would like to thank the members & visitors who took part. A very enjoyable afternoon was had by all the participants, the club would also like to thank Atty Hynes & Mick Rock for their cryptic clues which both annoyed & entertained the participants, thanks also to club Secretary Geraldine Farry for all her work on the treasure hunt. The winners with 16 of the 25 questions were Yvonne, Eoin & Ella Guckian and Ursula Connolly and 2nd Finola McMorrow & family. 

  On this Friday April 13 we have an American Tea Party in Clubhouse, tickets are €15 or 2 for €25 and are available from any committee member.

As we are in full golfing swing the Committee would appreciate if all members could pay their subscription as soon as possible. The club appreciates the difficulties everyone is experiencing in this recession, so if any member wishes to avail of the easy pay options available talk to Chris in the office. For all members who pay before March 31 there is a special Green Fee offer of 5 Green fees for half price of €50.

 On Monday April 16 at 7.30 we will commence a 6 week programme on golf lessons for lady beginners, if you are interested in taking up the game of golf this is an ideal opportunity to start, to book a place ring Lady Captain Mary King on 0866058385


Castlerea Golf Club

 Ladies.    The 02 competition was sponsored by Pat McDonagh Interiors.

1st Mary O’Gara 34 pts. 2nd Mary Kenny 32 pts. The competition on April 19th is sponsored by Scahill’s Stores.


Roscommon Golf Club

The Captain, John Cunningham, was the overall winner of the Sunday men’s 18 Hole Stableford competition, sponsored by J.J. Ward, with 40 points. The winner of Category 1 was Eddie Miley with 40 points. Category 2 was won by Ollie Hannon with 39 points and Sean Brennan won Category 3 with 40 points.

The first of the regular Friday  Open Men’s and Ladies’18 Hole Stableford Competitions took place on Friday 6th April and will continue every Friday until the end of September. The winner of the men’s competition was Martin Carr with 40 points. In second place was Mario Costello with 40 points also and in third place was Macdara Wrynne with 39 points. The winner of the Ladies’ competition was Joanne Daly with 42 points and in second place was Yvonne Waldron with 39 points.

There was exceptionally high scoring in the men’s seniors 16 hole competition on Thursday with Ollie Hannon winning with 37 points (back 9) and Jim Kelly in second place with 37 points also. Kevin Glynn was third with 35 points.

This week’s 18 hole Ladies competition on Tuesday was played in bitter cold and windy conditions and was won with an excellent score of 37points by Lady Captain Marina Dolan. In second place was Mary Pender with 36 points with Joan Moran coming third on 35 points. Ladies are reminded that a time sheet is in operation for the Tuesday Competitions and it is an important requirement to have your name entered on this sheet prior to playing in the competition. This is to ensure that all ladies wishing to play in the competition, including those who may not have a partner organised, are afforded the opportunity to put their name up with others on the timesheet.

Congratulations and best wishes to Anne McCormack who was recently selected on the Ladies Connacht Interprovincial Team. This year’s venue for the event is Cork G.C. and matches are to be played over three days from April 11th to 13th. Connacht meet Ulster in the first round on Thursday. Best of Luck also to our ladies Junior Cup team who play Co. Sligo in the first round of the inter-club this Sunday April 15th.
