Pool news: Guinness League Cup semi-finals

Lifebelt (Ballyleague) 4 Charlie’s A (Roscommon) 4: This eagerly-awaited semi-final took place on Sunday night last and it pitted last year’s champions, Charlie’s A against the Lifebelt Bar who have won the title on three occasions. After a ding-dong battle with some good pool played by both teams it finished 4 frames all with both teams missing some vital pots. On the night the Charlie’s A winners were Wayne Gilmartin, Eamon Cummins, Jason Murray and Paul McNeill while the Lifebelt winners were Enda O’Shea, Noel Moran, John McKenna and Shane McGann. The second leg of this tie takes place next Saturday night in Charlie’s Bar.

Silver Eel (Strokestown) 4 Charlie’s C (Roscommon) 4: The Silver Eel and Charlie’s C played out a draw in the first leg of this semi-final last Sunday night. It was a titanic battle as the match ebbed and flowed. In the end the winners for the Silver Eel were Conal Hanly, Mark McEvoy and Shane Flaherty and the winners for Charlie’s C were Mark Crossan, Hugh Kielty, Paul Lee and Jeremiah Coulter.

Cheers (Ballymoe) 3 Hollywood Bar (Roscommon) 5: Defending champions the Hollywood Bar took a giant step towards defending their crown when they took a 5-3 lead after the first leg of their clash with Cheers from Ballymoe who were playing in their first ever semi-final. Winners for the Hollywood Bar on the night were JP O’Gara, Rikki O’Gara, Enda Kelly, Liam Finneran and Jules Hannon while the winners for Cheers were Niall Flanagan, Stevie Joyce and Vinny Mullaney. The second leg takes place next Friday night.

Charlie’s B (Roscommon) 4 Red Parrot (Roscommon) 4: This local derby pitted the finalists of two years ago, Charlie’s B against first-time semi-finalists the Red Parrott. Charlie’s B got off to a dream start winning the first 4 games with wins for Neil Hennelly, Danny Talbot, Cathal Treacy and Paul Lyster. However the Red Parrot refused to give up and clawed their way back into this match, winning the last 4 frames with wins for Declan Hanly, Liam Fallon, Lorenzo Morelli and Johnny Tierney, to set up a mouth-watering second leg for next Sunday night.
