Kildare 4-17 Roscommon 1-6
Roscommon suffered one of their worst defeats in recent years when they travelled to Kildare on Sunday last. Roscommon got off to a bad start when Kildare’s Fiona Trant scored the opening goal within thirty seconds. This seemed to set the tone for the match with Kildare scoring at will and Roscommon finding it hard to make any progress.
Kildare added three further points before Roscommon got on the scoreboard with a pointed free from Kelly Hopkins. However within a minute Fiona Trant scored her second goal for Kildare.
Roscommon were thrown a lifeline when a free from Kelly Hopkins caused consternation in the Kildare square and Rachel Fallon’s overhead pull ended up in the Kildare net. Roscommon were unable to build on this and the half-time score was 2-10 to 1-3.
Roscommon needed to make a good start to the second half but again it was Kildare who were off the mark quickest with full-forward Roisin O’Connell scoring a goal and a point.
Despite Roscommon’s best efforts they couldn’t get into this game and Kildare ran out very convincing winners. Best for Roscommon were Caitriona Regan and Kelley Hopkins, while Roisin O’Connell, Susie Carroll, Siobhan Hurley and Fiona Trant were outstanding for Kildare.
