The Abbey Hotel in Roscommon has triumphed for a second year in a row at The Connaught Regional Finals of the Restaurant Awards 2012 sponsored by Santa Rita/Sunday Independent Life Magazine.
The long-established hotel, which is owned by the Grealy family, emerged successful from among the county’s hotels to win the top hotel restaurant award.
Over 240 restaurateurs attended the gala event in the Connacht region this year.
Commenting on the win, Ms. Anya Grealy of the Abbey Hotel said: “It means quite a lot, that our standards are high and it’s nice to see the good work being done by our chefs recognised and it also ensures that we have pretty high standards and our aim will be to continue to keep that standard.”
Anya continued: “I’m really delighted for the staff because it confirms the hard work and interest they have in their jobs and it’s good to see that being recognised. We have a good reputation for our food and it’s nice to see that being acknowledged.”
All County winners will now compete for the Regional and All Ireland Title which will be announced at the Irish Restaurant Awards in the Burlington Hotel Dublin on Wednesday 14th May 2012.
The Abbey Hotel has been run by the Grealy family since 1961. The hotel restaurant, which enjoys superb views of the nearby Roscommon Abbey, can seat 80 persons, while 300 people can be seated in the function room.
The Abbey Hotel are currently offering special deals offering free tea or coffee to customers who spent €12 on their evening bar food menu.
