Darts League on course for exciting climax

The final round of the Hannon’s Hotel sponsored Roscommon Darts League was played last Friday with wins for Kate’s, Flanagan’s, Spell’s, McDermott’s and Creaton’s. Also played was the rescheduled Round 17 fixture between Kate’s and the Village Inn.

  Round 17: Kate’s 5 Village Inn 2 (18 to 11 on legs). Justin Coleman hit a 180 for the Village Inn. Round 18: Widow Pat's 3 Kate's 4 (12 all on legs). Jimmy Reilly checked out 106 while Lenny Docherty took out a 110 finish. Flanagan's 5 Chariot 2 (16 to 9 on legs). Noel McTiernan hit a 180 for the Chariot. Spell's 5 Hollywood 2 (18 to 10 on legs). Denis Coffey checked out 102 and 111. Central Bar 3 McDermott's 4. Thomas Concannon and Mark Finneran both hit 180s for McDermott’s. Ger ‘Nipper’ McCoen took out 111 for the Central Bar. Village Inn 3 Creaton's 4 (10 to 15 on legs). Pat Reid had a 111 checkout for Creaton’s. 

  With the league completed, Spell’s were top of the table on 83 points. Following on in second place were Widow Pat’s (80), with McDermott’s (70) and Kate’s (69) completing the top four. The next four teams, who will all compete for the Shield are Creaton’s (66), Hollywood (64), Flanagan’s (61) and Central Bar (61). Following on from these teams in the table were The Chariot (45) and Village Inn (31).

  Dates For the Diary: With the league concluded, attention now turns to the cup and shield semi-finals between the top four and next four teams respectively. The semi-finals will be played over two legs on a home and away basis on Friday the 23rd and 30th of March, with the draw for these semi-finals to be made in the coming week. The finals have been set for Hannon’s Hotel on Saturday the 14th April.

  Sunday 18th of March sees the annual Martin Kelly Cup take place in the Hollywood Bar, Castle Street, Roscommon. Last year saw Irish International captain Martin Heneghan crowned champion as he got the best of the 52 players who took part on the day. Prize-money will be based on money in-money out plus €200, with trophies for winner, runner-up, semi-finalists, highest check out and best lady. A raffle will be held on the day in aid of cancer research, with €500 raised for this very worthy cause last year. Names are to be in by 1.30 pm, with the competition to start at 2 pm.
