Golf notes ...

Boyle Golf Club


Entry sheet for The King Harmon is on the notice board – please put your names down. Thursday night competition recommence on April 6th.

  A new €10 monthly club draw will be commencing in April. Members will be circulated with details and all support is appreciated. 

  Finally, we wish all our members and supporters a Happy St Patrick’s Day next Saturday and a Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday.


Castlerea Golf Club

 

Next week's competition is a committee prize. Anyone wishing to play on Saturday should have their names on the timesheet for that day. Junior's had their first session on Saturday last with a good attendance to what was a most enjoyable session for all. Next week Junior Golf will be held on Monday 19th of March at 10 am. 


Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club


The Flynn’s Bar Winter League final takes place on Sunday morning next March 18 at 11 am between Group 12 v Group 11. The play-off for 3rd place is also on Sunday morning March 18 between Tommy Flynn & David Taylor v Pat King & Tom Daly and Collie Griffin & Charlie Farrell v Niall McGreevy & Mickey Martin. The presentation of prizes will take place immediately after the final in the clubhouse along with the presentation of all the Voucher competitions played since last November. This St Patrick’s Holiday Weekend we have Open over Sunday & Monday with re-entry. 

  The family of Club Captain in 1951 E. Rice have kindly sponsored a mixed matchplay tournament for this year. The competition will be known as The Ardcarne Cup and will be a Mixed 4Some Matchplay with the draw for partners & first round taking place at the end of the month. If interested in playing please put your name on notice board in clubhouse. 


Roscommon Golf Club


On Saturday the junior members took the limelight when Boy’s Captain Nicholas Timothy and Girl’s Captain Blaithin O’Brien drove the ball down the fairway to the applause of their peers to get the junior golfing year off the ground. The drive-in was followed by a three-person 9-hole Scramble. Drive-In results: Overall winner Alan Hill, Daniel Fitzmaurice & Jack Fleming. 1st Boys: John Kennedy, Alan Connaughton and Fionn Hoare. 1st Girls: Orla Quinn, Niamh McCourt and Annie McNally. Good golfing and good fun to all our juniors in 2012!

  There was a great entry of 75 men in the 18-hole stableford competition on Sunday. The overall winner was Tommy Fallon with a great score of 40 points. The Category 1 winner was David Hill with 40 points also. Seamus Mulryan was the Category 2 winner with 38 points and Micheal Healy was the Category 3 winner with 38 points.

  Jim Finn, one of the most consistent players, was the winner of the men’s seniors 16 hole competition on Thursday with a fine score of 33 points. Benny Mulherne was in second place with 31 points (back 6) and John Cunningham was in third place with 31 points also.

  In the ladies weekly nine-hole competition Gertie Spillane was first with 21 points and Mary O'Keeffe came second with 18 points (last 3). In the winter league Bernie Browne's team won the playoff to claim the last remaining semi- final place and these matches will all be played with an overall winner being decided by March 31st. The Spring League foursome matches are also now underway. Ladies are reminded to consider adopting a bunker by adding their name to the list on the notice board.

  On St. Patrick’s Day, there is a men’s and ladies’ 18-hole stableford competition sponsored by John Keane & Sons. This is the first 18-hole outing of the year for the ladies. On Sunday the men’s 18-hole stableford competition is sponsored by John Ward Menswear. Please support our sponsors.  


Strokestown Golf Club


Round 1 of the Spring League commenced at the week-end and members are reminded to ensure that all matches in this round are completed within two weeks. There are four more rounds to play and all the details are available on the noticeboard. The 25 card drive was a great success with a huge turnout in the clubhouse on Friday night last. The club wishes to thank all those who supported this fundraiser in any way.
