Creggs 1-9 Leitrim Gaels 0-9
Creggs put their defeat in the county final behind them to get the better of Leitrim Gaels and qualify for the semi-final of the Connacht junior club championship where they will play the Galway champions Clonbur at a Galway venue on Sunday week.
This game at Hyde Park last Sunday never reached any great heights but Creggs were good value for their three-point win. Creggs opened up with a couple of good points and a goal from Eugene Hanley in the 9th minute to leave them 1-2 to 0-1 ahead.
The Leitrim side scored four points in a row to level the scores with two minutes left in the half. Enda O’Rourke scored a free for Creggs to put them ahead again but Leitrim Gaels were level again at half-time with an injury-time point.
Leitrim Gaels went ahead with an early point in the second half but Creggs played some great football after that and four points in a row saw the Creggs lads forge ahead. Two from Enda O’Rourke, sub Alan Kelly and Ronan Kelly left Creggs in a strong position with 10 minutes to go.
Then inside the final few minutes Padraig McKeague and Enda O’Rourke sealed the Creggs victory with two well-taken points to send them into the Connacht semi-final. Two late points from Leitrim Gaels didn’t affect the result and Creggs went through.
