Back to Education Initiative Courses (BTEI)

The BTEI provides flexible learning opportunities for young people and adults. Its aim is to give people the opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities.

  All courses provide nationally recognised formal qualifications. This term courses are offered in ‘Business’, ‘Healthcare’, ‘Childcare’ and ‘General Learning’ at FETAC Levels 3-5 and take place in various venues throughout the county.

  341 students attended BTEI courses in 2010, they completed modules at FETAC Levels 3-5, some have progressed onto other modules under BTEI, others have gone onto further education and some have secured employment as a result of their studies.

Who can take part on BTEI courses?

Those over 16 years of age and out of full time education but priority will be given to those with less than Leaving Certificate and those who have already completed modules under BTEI. Places are on a first come first served basis and we do not take names in advance of the enrolment/start date.

How much will it cost?

Courses are offered free of charge to the following:

* Medical Card Holders

* Those in receipt of a means tested Social Welfare payment

* Those with less than Leaving Cert

All others pay fees (€210.00).

Will I be paid while attending BTEI courses?

For those in receipt of Social Welfare payments continued entitlement is subject to satisfying the Department of Social Protection. It is best to discuss individual circumstances with the Department of Social Protection office.

 Enrolment for all classes is at the first session (see advertisement). Your PPSN number and Medical Card number and expiry are essential for enrolment. Class will commence after enrolment.
